An Inspirational Look Inside Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Dear travelers, if you ever got washed up on the shore of a little island called Singapore, be ready to be welcomed not by coconut trees, but by marvelous skyscrapers-filled skyline. Among those tall architecture, at the Marina Bay, stood the luxurious Marina Bay Sands Resort & Casino which consists of three asymmetrical towers holding up a “floating ship” platform called the Sky Park. This grandiose architecture has been conceived from the mind of Moshe Safdie, whose works are known for their dramatic curves, arrays of simple geometric patterns, and usage of windows and open spaces.

Inspirational Exploration of Design Fusion

During a rainy and gloomy afternoon in tropical Singapore, I ventured into the lobby of Marina Bay Sands with one purpose in mind—to gather inspirational photos of its interior and architecture design. Armed with my trusty Canon SD850 point-and-shoot camera (I wanted to look like a typical Asian tourist :) ), I marched into one of the entrance of Marina Bay Sands (there are one on each end of the hotel) and started snapping. Below are photos of its unique architecture and interior design with a focus on aesthetic design elements of the hotel. While looking at the photos, notice the beautiful blend of Eastern and Western culture and design aesthetics within the walls of Marina Bay Sands (which is always filled with visitors from all over the world). Going further into the spacious bowel of the hotel, with a layout of over 12,000 square meters, the mix of Eastern hospitality and exoticness and the clean simplicity and demure sophistication of Western/European elements can be seen and felt throughout the time I was there. All of these elements are infused together nicely with a unique “twist” of the architecture design of the hotel itself. Looking from afar, Marina Bay Sands, which opened on 23 June 2010, is surely becoming the most noticeable landmark of Singapore, a young modern city that is on the crossroad between holding onto the past and embracing the future. Please note, the photos taken are located on public domain/area and I did not trespass any prohibited or restricted area of the hotel. All photos are reserved by the photographer, to be used for non-commercial purposes and its permissible to be shared for personal use as long as you credit the photographer. And apologies for lower quality photos as these were taken with a point-and-shoot camera in a low lighting situation. Here’s a fun photo… Because the place is so huge, they have carts for quick travels inside the hotel! Wheee….. Hmm… Yes, while I was there I was curious to explore one of their suite… But with the budget I have I don’t think I can even afford a 2-star hotel room! :( Anyone wants to sponsor me a night at the Marina Bay Sands for the higher purpose of design study :D ?
